In summary:
The Project Manager is a contracted position that will coordinate into one comprehensive program planning document, the vision of the deaf center, contribution of each partnering agency, research of and recommendation of properties, established budget and finalize a program services menu for the deaf center with the purpose and intent of use within formalized grant and legislative funding proposals.


The Alaska Deaf Center Project is an RFP: The applicants will be required to submit a proposed timeline, budget and description of how an individual or organization will complete the objective of the development and completion of an effective project plan that would be utilized by partnering agencies to submit for grants and legislative funding.


Companies or individuals can respond to the Alaska Deaf Center Project Management proposal.  Alyeska Vocational Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer.


Applicants are encouraged to attend the RFP bidders conference on Thursday August 12th, 4:00 pm at Alyeska Vocational Services 2221 E Northern Lights Blvd., Ste 108 . The scope of the project, overall budget, project expectations, application process and questions will be answered at the briefing. Answers to questions posed will be posted on a website to be announced at the bidders conference. Station Astronaut Caldwell Dyson Sends First Sign Language Message From Space

The International Space Station has had guests from all over the world, representing myriad languages. But until NASA astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson came aboard, one language was still not represented. Said to be the fourth most commonly used language in the United States, American Sign Language, or ASL, made its debut on the space station in a special video recorded by Caldwell Dyson.

IPhone 4 becomes first to offer mobile VRS for users who cannot hear

An application on Apple's new iPhone 4 will allow for the first mobile use of video-relay service for users who have hearing impairments. The service will be offered through Apple's FaceTime video-chat application. One iPhone 4 user who cannot hear said the service will enhance the phone's video-chat option for people with hearing impairments. "Before, we only could communicate with each other using e-mail, text or IM," she said.

FCC Rejects SVRS’s Request for Stay of VRS Rates

"Sorenson filed a Motion for Stay of the effective date of the 2010-2011 VRS compensation rates and rules. Sorenson asked the Commission to continue providing VRS compensation pursuant to rates and rules in effect on June 30, 2010, pending review of the Order by the court of appeals. Sorenson also said it will consider the motion denied unless the Commission acts on it by July 9, 2010."

Anchorage Equal Rights Commission is seeking deaf ASL signers

The Anchorage Equal Rights Commission (AERC) is working on a project to develop one or more short clips in American Sign Lanugage (ASL) describing the laws that prohibits discrimination in Anchorage and the services of the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission. Yvonne Gutierrez is the project coodinator.

They are looking for recommendations of volunteers, who use ASL and might be interested in this project. They would require release of volunteers giving them permission to post volunteers' image on their website or in other media. Their goal is to film the video clips in late August and to publish them on their website by mid-September.


Currently, they are drafting the script. The script will contain information similar to their basic brochure or the FAQs from their website. They would appericate any input that you might have for the scripts.
